Mixamot
add-on
Sequence your own Mixamo clips into one continuous animation. Place target empties along a route, assign a clip to each, press Build — Mixamot lays out the NLA, bakes the transitions and drives root motion along the path. Blender 4.2 LTS and 5.x.
**Mixamo gives you clips. It does not give you a performance. Stitching Idle into Walk into Climb,
keeping the feet on the ground and the character facing the right way, is the part you do by hand
in the NLA — and it is worse the moment you have to change something.
Mixamot does that part. Drop empties where the character should go, tell each one which clip to
play, press one button.**
What you need
REQUIRES YOUR OWN MIXAMO FILES. Mixamot sequences animation clips that you download yourself from mixamo.com (free, Adobe account required). It does not include, download or generate any
animation. Any Mixamo-style character with a Hips bone works.
Place empties, press Build
Each target empty carries the clip that plays while the character travels away from it, so N
targets give you N-1 segments. Press Build and Mixamot lays out the whole NLA: segment strips,
baked transition strips, and a RootMotion action driving location and heading along the path.
Move a target, change a clip, reshape a curve — press Build again. The sequence re-lays itself in
one click. That is the part that normally costs an afternoon.
It measures the clip instead of asking you
Some Mixamo clips run on the spot and some travel by themselves. Mixamot tells them apart by
measuring how far the clip's own root moves, and sets the mode when you pick the clip. You can
override it.
For a travelling clip — a climb, a vault, a jump down — the destination is worked out from the
clip and the next target is placed there for you.
Mixamo has no single convention for where a clip's root sits: a climb keeps it at the bottom, a
jump-down keeps it at the landing and starts a metre in the air. Mixamot measures the feet rather
than trusting the root, so both land where they should.
Composer — clips Mixamo does not have
Build a new clip from two existing ones by taking chosen bones from the second: walk while waving,
run while looking over the shoulder, idle with a phone to the ear. Trim or scale the second clip to
fit, and the loop is worked out for you.
