Blender Agent Terminal
add-on
Run Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode or your terminal inside a Blender area, connected to your scene through the built-in official Blender MCP server.
Blender Agent Terminal adds a new editor type, Agent Terminal, that runs an AI coding agent or your system terminal right in a Blender area. The agent is connected to this Blender: it can inspect your scene, run Python, take screenshots of your viewport, search the Blender manual and API reference, and import free assets while you watch it work.
Highlights
- A real terminal in any Blender area: full color, mouse selection, copy and paste, scrollback
- Open it from any area's editor-type menu, from Window > New Agent Terminal Window, or with the terminal button in the corner of every 3D Viewport
- Four Agent Modes: Claude Code (default), Codex CLI, OpenCode, or a plain Terminal (your login shell, PowerShell on Windows)
- The official Blender Lab MCP server is built in. Nothing to install and nothing downloaded at start: it runs on Blender's own Python
- Free online assets on request: models, materials, HDRIs and images from Poly Haven, ambientCG, 3DAssets.dev, BlenderKit, Sketchfab and Openverse, each credited in an Online Asset Credits text block
- Searches and imports every Asset Browser library, including Essentials and your own libraries
- Model and effort buttons for Claude Code at the bottom of the area
- Several Blenders at once: each instance gets its own bridge port, so they never control each other
- Colors from your Text Editor theme, Blender icons and Blender wording
- macOS, Windows and Linux
Important
The AI agents are not included. To use an agent mode you need that agent installed and logged in with your own account. Their use is governed by their own terms, and any usage costs are billed by their providers. Terminal mode needs nothing extra.
Requires Blender 5.1 or newer with Online Access turned on. Tested on Blender 5.2 LTS.
Blender Agent Terminal is an independent product. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Blender Foundation, Anthropic, OpenAI or the OpenCode project.
How to use
Requirements
- Blender 5.1 or newer.
- Online Access turned on: Edit, Preferences, System, Network, Allow Online Access. The MCP bridge stays off without it, and the Agent Terminal header tells you so.
- For an agent mode, the agent installed and logged in with your own account: Claude Code, Codex CLI or OpenCode. Check that it runs in your normal system terminal first.
Installation
- Download the zip. Do not unzip it.
- In Blender open Edit, Preferences, Get Extensions.
- Open the menu in the top-right corner and choose Install from Disk, then pick the zip.
- Make sure Allow Online Access is on.
Opening an Agent Terminal
- Click the terminal button in the bottom-left corner of a 3D Viewport. The viewport splits with the Agent Terminal on the left. Click again to close it.
- Or choose Agent Terminal in any area's editor-type menu, or use Window, New Agent Terminal Window.
Choosing the Agent Mode
Edit, Preferences, Add-ons, Blender Agent Terminal, Agent Mode: Claude Code (default), Codex CLI, OpenCode or Terminal. Changing it restarts open Agent Terminal areas. Each command can be edited, for example to add flags.
Using it
- Hover the Agent Terminal and type; keys go to the agent.
- Drag to select, Ctrl/Cmd+C to copy, Ctrl/Cmd+V to paste, mouse wheel to scroll.
- Restart is in the header. Model and effort buttons for Claude Code are at the bottom of the area.
Example prompts: "Look at my scene and tell me what's in it." "Find a free sunset HDRI and use it as the world." "Write a script that renames all selected objects by their material."
Online assets
Only free assets are searched and imported, from Poly Haven, ambientCG, 3DAssets.dev, BlenderKit, Sketchfab and Openverse. Every import adds the author and license to the Online Asset Credits text block. Licenses differ per asset, so check them before commercial use. Sketchfab downloads need your Sketchfab API token in the add-on preferences.
Troubleshooting
- Header says Online Access is off: turn on Allow Online Access and restart the area.
- Command not found: install the agent and check it runs in your system terminal, or set the full path in the mode's command preference.
- The agent can't see Blender: in Claude Code run /mcp; blender and online-assets must be connected. Click Restart in the header.
FAQ
Is the AI included?
No. You use your own Claude Code, Codex CLI or OpenCode account, and usage is billed by its provider under your own plan. The add-on connects it to Blender. Terminal mode works without any agent.
Does it send my scene anywhere?
The add-on only talks to the agent on your own computer (127.0.0.1). What the agent sends to its provider is governed by that agent and its settings. Online asset searches go to the asset sites.
Can I use several Blender instances at once?
Yes. Each Blender instance gets its own bridge port, shown in the header, and you can open several Agent Terminal areas.
Is this the official Blender MCP?
It bundles the official Blender Lab MCP server (GPL) with small changes so it runs without installing anything. The add-on itself is an independent product.
