Get this modelThe vein sponge is a species of sea sponge recognized by its tall, fluted body and broad, cup-shaped crown. Its surface is covered in deep vertical ridges that run from the base toward the upper rim, giving the sponge vascular appearance. The expanded opening at the top forms a shallow basin lined with soft folds and rounded patterns, through which water is continuously drawn and expelled. Vein sponges occur in colors ranging from luminous violet and lavender to warm coral, amber, and pale cream. They are typically anchored to rocky reef surfaces, where their narrow base provides stability while the elevated crown reaches into passing currents of ocean.
