City View Thunderstorm
Get this sceneBuilt entirely in Blender 5.2, this scene captures a dense downtown skyline of glass-and-steel skyscrapers under a heavy storm, with branching lightning bolts forking across a dark overcast sky and rain falling through the frame. The camera looks up from street level at the towers, so the tall facades rise steeply into the clouds and the lightning fills the gap between them.
The skyline is a mix of tall office towers with strict vertical window banding and lower residential blocks with balconies and varied window patterns, so the city doesn't read as one repeated building.
What's going on under the hood:
Multiple lightning bolts with branching forks light up the sky and fall across the building faces as a harsh, cold highlight.
Falling rain streaks add depth and motion cues in front of and behind the towers.
The glass facades carry reflections of the neighboring buildings and the stormy sky, which keeps the monochrome palette from looking flat.
Lighting is a cool, desaturated overcast setup with the lightning as the only bright accent, giving the scene a dramatic, high-contrast mood.
The cutom node setup was used to light the environment in whihc you can chnaeg the thickness of the clouds the range, density and many more.
All compositing was done natively in Blender, with no external editing, balancing exposure, contrast, and a cold blue-grey color grade across the final image.
